A fresh, new program to engage your students and support their literacy development.
All the components needed for rich literacy development are covered:
• oral language • phonological awareness
• vocabulary • phonics • fluency • comprehension
Content is organised into three stages that follow a scope and sequence
of skills and knowledge – from simple through to complex. Engaging
decodable books follow the same sequence, and are scaffolded for
independent practice of newly learnt skills. Students move on to the
Flying Start to Literacy small group reading resource which takes them through to upper Primary levels.
Organization of the program
There are three modules, with ten teaching units for each module.
The program follows an explicit and systematic sequence of skills and knowledge from initial letters and sounds to uncommon letter sequences.
Each unit facilitates the explicit teaching of oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, morphology, and high-utility words.
Writing instruction is included in each lesson. Students’ writing provides
opportunities for teaching phonemic awareness and letter knowledge.
Assessment is built into the program to organise children for learning, and to monitor their progress.
Exciting, engaging decodable texts match the teaching sequence and support the students as they put what has been learnt into practice.
